SK Sturm Graz can continue to rely on the services of Alexander Prass this season. The attacking player, who has been linked with a move this summer, will not leave the Austrian runners-up after all. Sports director Andreas Schicker confirmed this in a short message. The 22-year-old had previously been linked with Udinese Calcio, VfB Stuttgart and SC Freiburg, among others. However, the hottest lead recently led to FC Lorient in France.

“We will not sell Alexander Prass during this transfer period. As I have always said, there were still details to be clarified in this matter and in the end we were unable to reach an agreement with the interested club. It was also simply important for us to set a deadline and it then expired. From that point of view, Alex Prass will remain a Sturm Graz player,” Schicker explains the rejection of a foreign transfer.

Matured to become a national player in Graz

Alexander Prass has developed into an absolute constant in the team under head coach Christian Ilzer since moving to Graz in the summer of 2021 and has attracted attention with convincing performances in the past two seasons. In Styria, the 22-year-old winger also developed into an Austrian national player, which is why the next career step was expected this year. Now Prass will stay with the “Blackies”.

“We communicated that very openly with the players and advisors and they also have full understanding for this decision. In the end, the interested club didn’t show this willingness to take these small steps and they were very important for us . Alex Prass is a very important player for us and I’m very happy he’s still available for us this season.”

On the other hand, the departure of veteran Jakob Jantscher is finally fixed. The 34-year-old attacker leaves Graz after more than five years and moves to Hong Kong to Master Kitchee. This was officially announced by the club from the Chinese special administrative region on Wednesday. In the 4-1 win against newly promoted Blau-Weiss Linz on the previous day, the offensive player had already been bid farewell by the Graz fans.
