Great player Alexander Ovetchkin opened the scoring in the match between Washington and Chicago. He scored twice before his opponent responded and in the third period Ovetchkin extended what was then 5-2.
A hat-trick was the result of the goal-rich game, which ended 7-3. The Russian’s third goal was his 800th in the NHL, in which he’s played since 2005. He’s the third-leading scorer in league history, but the 800 mark also means he’s close to moving up the ranks.
Near another goal post
Wayne Grezky tops the list with 894 goals, followed by Gordie Howe with 801 goals. A record that Ovetchkin is so close to surpassing.
After the win, the Capitals are at the center of the NHL, in 15th place. Tougher situation for the Blackhawks, who collected 18 points and have only the Anaheim Ducks behind them in the standings.
