Alexander Ovechkin Makes History: Scores Double and Surpasses Gretzky for Most Away Goals in NHL

Alexander Ovechkin started the new NHL season with a bang. In 13 games, the Russian has already achieved 16 points (8 + 8), and his team in Washington finds out the top four in the Eastern Conference.

To become the all-time leading scorer, Ovechkin only needs to score 34 goals. Wayne Gretzky‘s record (894) may fall this season. However, during his career, Alexander has already taken away cool records from the big Canadian. And one of the most famous fell to Ovechkin recently.

At the start of the 2022/23 season, the Russian forward Washington became the best sniper in the history of the league in terms of the number of goals in away games. On November 30, Ovechkin scored a double goal against Vancouver, and his team won a big victory – 5:1. Ovechkin’s second goal was his 403rd in away games. Thus, Russia exceeded the output of Gretzky, who has 402 such goals.

Washington’s captain was congratulated on his accomplishments by his teammates. A video from the locker room appeared on the Internet in which the Capitals hockey players, after learning about Ovechkin’s record, praised the Russian and at the same time gave him an award for the most valuable player.
