Alexander Meier leaves Australia again

After just four months, Alexander Meier’s time at the Sydney Wanderers is history. He will return to Germany for personal reasons. His future plans are unknown.

Only four months ago, ex-Frankfurt Alexander Meier decided to switch from FC St. Pauli to Australia for the Sydney Wanderers. The adventure is over now. The Australian club confirmed this in a press release.

“The Wanderers are a great football club. Everyone here was very helpful, the fans were great and I really enjoyed my time here,” said the 37-year-old in the press release. What his future looks like is still unknown.

His trainer Markus Babbel said: “It is a shame to lose Alex because he is a top professional and a great person. I had a conversation with him and I think we have found the best solution.” According to “Yahoo Sports”, Babbel indicated private reasons for Meier’s departure, but did not want to go into detail about it.

Meier scored a goal for the Wanderers in twelve games. Meier had the greatest time in his career in Frankfurt. For the Eintracht he played 13 years and scored 137 goals. Because of its numerous goals and strong identification with the club, the Frankfurt fans still call the star “football god”.

In Australia, Meier played with his former teammates at Eintracht Frankfurt Nicolai Müller and Pirmin Schwegler.
