About the defeat from Polesie

— When you lead 2:1, play in the majority, but in the end lose, then this is not something that is not typical for Dynamo Kyiv – this cannot happen at all. With all due respect to Polesye. This is a very good team, which includes experienced football players, and which is a fighting team aimed at fighting for high places. I think everyone has already seen what kind of infrastructure Polesie has and at what pace this club is developing. Few people do this in Ukraine, especially in times like now.

Polesie played well against us, but we probably weren’t ready for it. It is necessary for each of our team to “dig” into themselves, reconsider their attitude, and understand what they really want. Dynamo Kiev has a glorious history and always fights only for first place. In any tournament. Therefore, it cannot be that we outplay our opponent in all aspects, and then simply give up. Everyone who comes to Dynamo must devote themselves even more to their work and progress even more than they did in previous clubs. And everything must be done without mistakes, because at this level they simply cannot be forgiven.

Of course, such a defeat can cripple anyone. Before the next game, we will all need to get together and talk so that no emotional hole arises, so that no one gets hung up on this failure, because there are many matches ahead of us. We will have many chances to make things right. Everything depends on us. Yes, now we have lost, everyone hates us, we understand why, and we can also hate ourselves. But the good thing is there is always the next match. Unless we’re talking about the finale. There are many matches ahead in which we can correct the situation and avoid repeating mistakes.

About his sending off in the match with Polesye

– I was surprised. When the referee showed me the red card, I approached him, and he said: “You understand, spikes near the opponent’s face are always a red card.” But I never want to bring pain to anyone on the football field – I don’t have that in me. I was always taught this: “You eat one bread. And if you try to hurt someone, then this may eventually happen to you.”

In that episode, we controlled the ball, a pass was coming to me, I saw that I could stop the ball with my foot, and at that moment the Polesie player raised it. He also wanted to play ball, I understand him, but my leg was already there and I could no longer pick it up. But if you look at the final moment of this episode, you can see that I didn’t do anything with my foot and even tried to remove it.

I agree that this is a red card. But notice that the referee first showed me a yellow card because he saw that I did not play deliberately, because he saw that the opponent was playing “at me.” But then – blood on the face, VAR and a change of decision. In a picture, any such episode can look terrible. Like, for example, the recent moment with Rakitsky. This was also a purely game moment: he was “rolling” by inertia and slightly caught the opponent’s supporting leg, but before that he played the ball. And only after VAR is Rakitsky given a red card.

About VAR

— We must understand that we are always moving forward, always developing. And without current technologies there will definitely be no football. VAR will no longer be cancelled. But this technology needs to be improved. For example, if an episode with a violation is purely playful and does not look terrible through the eyes of the person who is nearby, then why rewatch it? There are a lot of questions about VAR right now.
