The women’s part of the Russian Cup pleases with competition. Veronica Stepanova declared herself this season, starting to win one race after another, but there were skiers who did not allow her to take gold a couple of times. For fans of the Olympic champion it’s sadness, but for those who love the intrigue of skiing it’s a thrill.

Bolshunov won the Russian Cup stage for the ninth time in a row

The situation for men has remained unchanged since the very first stage. Alexander Bolshunov, despite his back injury, is in great shape relative to his opponents. He has never lost at the Russian Cup – 8 wins out of 8.

In Kirovo-Chepetsk, at the fourth stage of the National Cup in the 10 km classic race, everything again came down to waiting for Bolshunov’s finish and a possible sensation from one of the competitors.

San Sanych was the last to enter the race, so all the showdowns between his rivals were marked as an intermediate result. Ermil Vokuev and Alexey Chervotkin made a serious bid to get into the top 3. Savely Korostelev also tried, but somehow the race didn’t work out very well for him. Sergei Ardashev, who was next to Vokuev and Chervotkin, looked much more interesting at a distance.

Ardashev tried to get ahead of both skiers, but at the finish he remained in third intermediate position. As for the showdown between Vokuev and Chervotkin for a possible victory, both showed approximately the same speed. In the end, everything was decided after Chervotkin’s finish. He knew Yermil’s time, so it was a little easier for him. 1.9 seconds – that’s how much the Olympic champion won against his opponent.

Stepanova failed to win the Russian Ski Cup stage

Chervotkin could not exhale. Bolshunov was already rapidly taking the lead at all cutoffs. San Sanych started the acceleration with an advantage of 4 seconds, and by the equator he brought the race back to 12. At the 6.8 km mark, Bolshunov slowed down a little, but not from fatigue. 1.6 km before the finish this became clear. The leader of the Russian Cup beat Chervotkin and Vokuev 14-15, finally destroying the dreams of his haters about defeat.

Bolshunov beautifully won the 9th race in a row. And how I would like to see their fights with Johannes Kläbo again. The Norwegian has also gained momentum and is winning in different formats. All ski racing fans would get a kick out of this fight. In the meantime, we must hope that San Sanych will not lose motivation. He definitely wants to win the 10th race in a row.
