Alexander Albon “I have regained the confidence I had lost with Red Bull F1″[F1-Gate.com]

Alexander Albon explained how he regained the confidence he had lost after a failed spell with Red Bull F1 in 2020.

Alexander Albon joined the F1 grid in 2019 with Red Bull’s second team, Toro Rosso (now AlphaTauri), and was promoted to Red Bull Racing midway through his rookie season.

Alexander Albon remained with Red Bull Racing for 2020 but struggled to perform against teammate Max Verstappen.

Red Bull demoted Alexander Albon to a reserve driver role for 2021, placing him in the German DTM GT3 sports car series with its AlphaTauri-branded team. In September of the same year, Alexander Albon secured a return to F1 with Williams for 2022, while maintaining his links with Red Bull.

Towards the end of his return to the F1 season, Alexander Albon signed a multi-year contract that would secure him a long-term future as a Williams F1 driver. Apparently Albon was the target for the eventual 2022 season.

“Honestly, what I wanted most when I got back to F1 was to stay in F1,” said Albon.

“It may sound very silly, but it’s true.”

“With a one-year contract, you don’t have another year of warranty. And let’s just say the box is ticked.”

Alexander says he has regained confidence after a year and a half at Red Bull.

“As far as I’m concerned, in terms of driving, getting behind the wheel and regaining confidence, I basically get into the rhythm of the car and feel like I’m in control of my limits. I feel like I’ve made it,” he said. Alexander Albon.

“Towards the end of the 2020 season I got a little lost. When you drive a DTM car it’s a whole other thing. You can’t measure exactly where you are.”

“I feel like I am driving very well at the moment. A lot depends on my confidence in the car and I feel I have succeeded too.”

This year, Alexander Albon occupies 19th place in the drivers’ standings with three points, contributing half of Williams F1’s total points tally.

“I feel I have done a good job this year and I feel like I have demonstrated what I can do,” said Albon.

“Of course I still want to move forward, get good results, impress the team and show what I can do.”

“But I feel this year has been positive, considering everything, including the year I didn’t have. I feel it went better than I expected.”
