Washington Football Team quarterback Alex Smith was named NFL Comeback Player of the Year 2020 on Saturday. After missing the entire 2019 season due to a broken leg, Smith scored a 5-1 record as a starter in 2020 and helped Washington reach the playoffs for the first time since the 2015 season.
The 36-year-old broke his leg during a game against the Houston Texans in November 2018 and subsequently battled a career-threatening infection in his surgically restored right leg.
The three-time pro bowler made 66.7% of his pass attempts for 1,582 yards and six touchdowns in eight interceptions in eight appearances this season.
Smith also struggled with a calf injury in 2020 that incapacitated him for several games, including Washington’s wild card game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
