Alex Ovechkin scored two more goals for the Capitals on Monday night as he continues to chase Wayne Gretzky atop the all-time scoring list.
Ovechkin is now on 868 NHL goals, just 26 goals behind the legendary Gretzky who ended his career with a record 894.

The Russian has posted a record-breaking pace this year and is on track to break Gretzky’s record this season if injuries don’t hold the 39-year-old back.
But after scoring two more goals against Utah on Monday, Ovechkin faced injury concerns, as he was involved in a heavy collision with Jack McBain that saw their knees collide.
Ovechkin immediately left the ice after breaking his knee on McBain, heading straight into the tunnel without returning to the game.
While Ovechkin didn’t speak to reporters after going out injured, Capitals coach Spencer Carbery talked about the type of leader his player is and how much he will be missed while he’s injured.

“He has been phenomenal this year, leading the charge and our team, not only from a leadership standpoint and in the locker room, but on the ice,” Carbery said. “In times when you need these types of games, you need guys to step up and score or make a big play, he continued to do that.”
The Capitals face Colorado on Thursday night, but their leading scorer is unlikely to be in attendance after the blow he suffered Monday.
