Alex Norén is second in the PGA competition in Texas

It took three holes, then Alex Norén rolled in a putt of just over a meter and the birdie hunt was in full swing in McKinney, outside Dallas.

When the first nine holes were completed, Norén stood on four birdies and the rest par, and the Swede climbed slowly in the results list. And that climb continued steadily during Friday’s last nine holes. There were four more birdies and five pairs and when the Swede looked up at the scoreboard he could see that only one player had done better.

– Most things worked really well, it was a good day. Good much more wind than yesterday, but now I put better, said Alex Norén according to the news agency AFP after the round.

With a total of -15, he is two strokes behind the young American Sam Burns, who after today’s best round, 62 strokes, took the lead. But the Swede could have had even more tight feeling, a two-meter putt on the end hole slipped close past the hole and he had to settle for a couple.

Alex Norén has been 25th and 21st in his last two starts on the PGA Tour, but has not had a really good position since July last year, when he finished third in Minnesota. Now the 38-year-old looks to have improved his form well ahead of the PGA Championship on Kiawah Island next week.

The final game for this week, on the other hand, is for Jonas Blixt, who after an uneven round went around two over par for a total of -4. He thus misses the limit for further play by two strokes. David Lingmerth (+2) can also pack his bag and leave the competition.
