TORONTO – As reported by the portal TSN, the former blue and white striker Alex Formenton filed a $20.5 million lawsuit against the Newport Sports agency and agent Wade Arnott.

Formentonone of five former NHL players accused of sexual assault by London police, launched the lawsuit with charges of negligence, breach of contract and failure to comply with fiduciary duty.

The 25-year-old claims he suffered a loss of revenue for the 2022/23 and 2023/24 NHL seasons – years which he spent partly in Leventina – as well as future losses resulting from time lost in the NHL, due to the mismanagement of Arnott and Newport.

Formenton asked the court for $20 million in damages and an additional $500,000 in damages due to Newport’s “bad faith and oppressive conduct.”

The accusations of Formenton have not yet been tested in court. Neither Don Meehan, founder of Newport Sports, nor Arnott responded to requests from TSN of comment. Newport, based in Toronto, is the largest agency in the NHL and represents high-profile players such as Connor Bedard, Erik Karlsson, Brad Marchand e Matthew Tkachuk.

“As his agent, Wade and Newport Sports had a duty of care to Alex”, recites the cause of Formenton. “At all relevant times, they acted negligently in carrying out their duties as Alex’s agents and failed to comply with the standard of care required of a professional agent. Alex claims that the services and advice provided by Wade and Newport Sports were negligent, superficial and unprofessional….”
