A year and a half ago, Victor Campenaerts clocked at 55.089 kilometers in 1 hour at altitude in Mexico. On April 16, our fellow countryman in the Velodromo Bicententario in Aguascalientes was the first to cross the magical cape of 55 kilometers.
The international cycling union UCI announced today that Dowsett wants to do better at the National Cycling Center in Manchester.
The Briton was the world hour record holder for over a month in 2015. On May 2, 2015, he drove 52,937 km in an hour in Manchester. However, with Bradley Wiggins, another Briton smashed that record on June 7 of that year in London: 54,526 km. Wiggins lost his record to Campenaerts.

Now Dowsett is keen to become the world hour record holder again. The speedster of Israel Start-Up Nation, who won the 8th stage in the Giro this year, has been preparing for a while in Great Britain. “When I got the record behind my name in 2015, we drove enough to break the record, but there was even more in the tank at the end,” said Dowsett.
“That was frustrating given the work that everyone had put into it. I saw that there was an opportunity in December to go for it again. Of course I want to improve the record. I want to see what I can do. It’s an event where I love.”
“Although I know that the bar has been set extremely high by Victor Campenaerts. Still I think I am able to do even better.”
The UCI also announces that, given the corona crisis, all necessary precautions will be taken to guarantee the safety of Dowsett and all persons involved.
Sporza.be will livestream Dowsett’s record attempt.
