Ed Sheeran already did it, single-handedly filling the festival meadow in Werchter. AC/DC also, in 2016, fronted by Axl Rose for the occasion. And Alex Agnew will soon be chasing them, with the show Wake me up when it’s over† A feat for a comedian. ‘Once in a lifetime’, it sounds in a press release. On the occasion of his fiftieth birthday and because he has been on stage for twenty years.
“To ease the pain of childhood lost forever and stroke his massive ego one more time, Alex Agnew takes this opportunity to celebrate it all with you,” it reads. Not that he jumps in at the deep end, because in 2011 he was five times in the Sportpaleis, reaching more than 60,000 fans.
The organization is in the hands of Live Nation, which also sets up Rock Werchter. CEO Herman Schueremans: ‘Alex Agnew is a top performer, a phenomenon, a man who dares. We have already organized concerts by the world’s greatest artists in the Festival Park. This is of a very different nature: the greatest comedy show ever, from the king of comedy† We are proud to be a part of this and we are going to make history together.’
A ticket costs 70 euros, ticket sales start on March 12. For every ticket sold, 1 euro is donated to the Yamina Krossa Fund for breast cancer research.
