Alessio Romagnoli started his season from the pits, we remember in fact the muscular problems he had to face this summer: a muscle injury to the calf that forced him to stay out of the field for 87 days. Despite this, as soon as he returned to enlist, the couple formed together with Kjaer quickly became a certainty for the formation of Mister Pioli. Other physical complications and Tomori’s arrival at Milanello (who presented excellent performances as a visiting card) seem to have questioned the captain’s future Rossoneri, so much so as to fuel unreliable market rumors.
ROMAGNOLI-TOMORI, AN ARMCHAIR FOR TWO? – In a Top club, it is necessary to have at least four central defensive players of absolute value available in the squad. This is the starting point of any reasoning by Maldini and Massara when the backlog package available to Pioli is switched to the radar. It is a fact that Tomori’s performance, landed at Linate as a temporary reserve or a little more, has impressed everyone a little; the grumbling started almost immediately by the Blues fans let us perceive that his departure could be painful, and now we begin to understand the reasons. Tomori took a little, very little time to show all his qualities: acceleration, aggression, pressure across the board on the ball carrier, characteristics that were actually lacking in the defensive phase of Milan. We add that the recent releases of Romagnoli have turned up their noses, probably because one would expect a qualitative leap in his performances, too often limited to carrying out the homework, and here the Romagnoli “case” is likely to break out. In any case, when Romagnoli is well he is considered by the whole Milanello environment as a starter, and paired with Tomori he could constitute a high-level defensive couple for the Milan of the future; has totaled 20 appearances in Serie A and enjoys the total confidence of Pioli, who in a season troubled by injuries like this one, can draw a fundamental lesson: the more important players you have in the same roles, the better, especially if we take into account that physical stops for the expert Kjaer can be foreseen over the course of a long season, and rotation is more than a choice, it is an obligation. Healthy competition between high-level players in the same position on the pitch is welcome, especially in a club that aspires to play every 3 days, finally returning to hear the Champions League jingle.
RAIOLA AND RENEWAL: DANGEROUS COMBINATION (ALWAYS) – The Rossoneri captain has a contract that will expire on 30 June 2022 and the renewal negotiations, led by Mino Raiola, seem anything but a formality. The Gazzetta dello Sport reported that to sign the extension, the request is around 6 million euros net per season, practically double his current salary, a figure that is difficult to reach from the club in via Aldo Rossi, which will prepare to sit at the negotiation table. At the moment Romagnoli is back in the pits due to a calf injury and is experiencing market rumors away from the pitch; the last in chronological order is represented by an unlikely exchange between discontents with Federico Bernardeschi (also belonging to the Raiola team). The rumor is not finding effective feedback, and is probably destined to remain so, in the meantime Romagnoli warms up his engines to show that this is still his Milan, and a lackluster period combined with increasing competition, cannot so easily cancel how much good done for the team, which gave him the armband and puts the utmost trust in him, also for the future.
