The diagnosis of chronic myelomonocytic leukemia for Alessandro Baricco dates back to five months ago. It will be his sister Enrica who will give him the stem cells necessary for the transplant, like announced himself on social network Saturday. The operation, not yet scheduled, will take place at the Candiolo Institute, a Turin cancer center. “It will happen in these days, it depends on the outcome of the part entrusted to the sister”, explains Gloria Campaner, companion of the writer. The diagnosis “came suddenly,” said the pianist. “The game is still to be played and now, as in recent months, we are concentrating on the result: everything will be fine”.
She and Alessandro, Campaner told The print, they feel «through video calls: the current situation does not allow family members to stay close to the sick, but Alessandro and I can still take this moment lightly, we can keep in touch. I am studying but I have canceled the concert activity. From the beginning we have chosen to tackle the problem with the desire to laugh at it and now that we have arrived at the intervention, let’s not give up our optimism ». There is trust: «In him, who is strong and courageous, and in the awareness of hope. I am full of love and gratitude ». Also for his sister: «Just imagining Enrica’s gesture I find it difficult to manage emotion. With this energy all of us, family, friends, await the light of the next few days ». Enrica Baricco, an architect by profession, is the founder and president of Casa Oz in Turin, a structure that welcomes sick children and their families. The property temporarily accommodates families with sick or disabled children. Founded in 2005, in addition to contributions from individuals, it is financed with the income from Magazzini Oz, a social cooperative that operates in the center of Turin. To date, it has given help to 2,000 and 500 people.
