Alerts! Solar Storms Hit Earth This Week, What Are Their Impacts?

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Earthlings have been warned that there will be mild and moderate geomagnetic storms or solar storms over the next few days.

The warning was released by the Center for Outer Space Weather Prediction of the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and British Meteorology or the British Met Office.

However, the agency said there was no need to worry because the storm would not cause any damage to Earth, as quoted by CNBC Indonesia from Science Alert, Tuesday (15/3/2022).

Because according to them, the Earth has actually been hit by mild and moderate geomagnetic storms over the past few days.

The storms were categorized as G1 and G2 on a five-level solar storm scale, with G5 being the most extreme.

The impact of this storm is likely to affect some high-frequency radio signals at high latitudes. For that corrective action needs to be prepared for the satellite due to a shift in location.

Another possibility will also exist, where fluctuations in the power grid and some disturbance in the activities of migrating animals.

Earthlings can also see an increase in the aurora borealis and aurora australis.

“There is a possible increase in the aurora oval at times during March 13 and 14 as a result of the two Coronal Mass Ejections (CME) and the high velocity flow of the coronal hole arriving at Earth,” the British Met Office said.

This light show can be seen at 55 degrees latitude, at each pole.

Solar storms themselves are fairly normal space weather, occurring whenever the Sun grows more active.

As a result, the CME and the solar wind cause disturbances in the Earth’s magnetic field and the upper atmosphere. And right now, both are happening.
