Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Russian President Vladimir Putin is reportedly planning a new deadly attack on Ukraine. This plan was worked out when Moscow was approaching control of the key city in Donbass, Bakhmut.
In British media reports, Express, Putin is said to be launching a large troop deployment in Ukraine. This is to help smooth out military operations in order to completely seize the Donbass region which incidentally currently belongs to Ukraine.
However, several Western reports said this step was actually a suicide maneuver or kamikaze. The reason is, a report says Russia has lost 150,000 troops, while the progress made is not significant.
“Russia has so far proven unable to effectively coordinate combined arms strikes, or provide adequate logistical support for a breakthrough,” said the latest assessment of Western governments, quoted Friday (3/3/2023).
“The Russian Army has not practiced this for 30 years and seems beyond their means. The main ground troop tactic remains mass infantry near suicide attacks with poorly trained troops under the cover of heavy artillery.”
The report even cites the case of the invasion of Afghanistan by Russia’s predecessor, the Soviet Union, in the late 1970s. At that time, the Soviets lost 200 fighter jets due to the missile assistance received by the Mujahideen from the West.
“Russian pilots don’t seem to want to ‘get close to the enemy’ like they did in Afghanistan after Mujahideen got hold of Stinger missiles,” he added.
The Russian army itself has several times received criticism from internal parties in the Land of the White Bear. Last month, pro-Moscow figure Vladimir Solovyov even accused the Russian Army of failing miserably to suppress their enemy.
Even so, the Russian military has made progress on several fronts. Cities such as Mariupol and around Zaporizhzhia have been captured by the country’s troops in the war that started in February 2022.
