Suara.com – A number researchers Australia found that the new corona virus, the cause of Covid-19, can live for up to 28 days on the surface of an object, including banknotes and glass.
The Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO) on Monday (12/10) published new research on the “survival abilities” possessed by the deadly virus.
The research found that corona virus survived longer at low temperatures, tended to survive longer on smooth surfaces such as glass and stainless steel, and survived longer on notes made of paper than money made of plastic.
CSIRO Chief Executive Larry Marshall said the research builds on the agency’s previous work on Covid-19, including vaccine testing and wastewater testing.

“Determining how long the virus actually lasts on the surface of objects, allows us to produce more accurate predictions and reduce its spread, and better protect our society,” he said. Xinhua, Tuesday (13/10/2020).
“The results we have obtained show that the new corona virus are still contagious on surfaces over a long period of time, underscoring the need for good practices such as washing hands regularly and cleaning surfaces, “said Debbie Eagles, Deputy Director of the Australian Center for Disease Preparedness (ACDP), who is under the auspices of CSIRO, in a press statement.
“At 20 degrees Celsius, which is roughly the equivalent of room temperature, we found that the virus was very strong, surviving 28 days on smooth surfaces such as glass used on cellphone screens and plastic money,” he added.
“In comparison, a number of similar experiments with Influenza A found that the virus survived on surfaces for 17 days, which shows how powerful the new coronavirus is,” said Eagles.
Further research was carried out for temperatures of 30 and 40 degrees Celsius, and it was found that the age of the virus decreased as the temperature increased.
