Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – On December 23, 2021 a Solar Storm arrives on Earth. This is the effect of solar activity on December 20, 2021.
Actually, the increase in activity occurred in two days, December 20-21, 2021. The phenomenon originates from nine groups of sunspots and is on their surface.
The three M-class solar flares occurred at 11:36 UTC on December 20 and 7:50 UTC and 11:44 UTC on December 21, 2021.
The December 20 beacon from AR12908. While the remaining two are from the region east of the Sun.
Earth Sky also reported that among the medium-sized beacons, there were many of the C-class with smaller sizes.
Most of the solar flares come from that region. These phenomena often release streams of charged particles into space, known as coronal mass ejections (CMEs).
CME takes time to get to Earth. That is why the impact of the December 20 activity was felt on Earth 3 days later.
When CME particles strike Earth, they cause the aurora boreals and aurora australis (lights in the north and south). In addition, it also has the potential to affect the power grid and orbital satellites on Earth, quoted from Earth Sky, Thursday (12/23/2021).
The forecast from the NOOA Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC) is for CME to arrive on Earth December 23, 2021 at 21:00 UTC (04:00 WIB December 24, 2021). Meanwhile, NASA’s Moon to Mars Space Weather Office produced a model with an earlier arrival time of 16:28 UTC (23:28 WIB). There is a time error of about plus minus 7 hours.
SWPC said the CME hit Earth’s magnetic shield or magnetosphere. May result in increased geomagnetic activity with hurricane grade G-1.
