WhatsApp messaging users have reported about a new extortion mode in which criminals send a message stating that the victim belongs to their contact list, but does not recognize it, this in order to gain their trust and that they are added to their social networks.
“Sorry, who are you? I have found you in my contact list “, This is how scammers start to start a conversation with victims and gain their trust according to the WABetainfo portal.
Once the conversation has begun, what is sought is for the victim to respond to certain information such as name and place of work, among others, in order to establish a link for you to add them to networks such as Facebook and Instagram.
When they have access to your social networks, the next step is blackmail by manipulating your photos with editing tools. They demand amounts of money so that “your photographs” are not exposed with family and friends.
Experts recommend that once this type of extortion is detected, the best ones to immediately report the WhatsApp contact and secure your account by limiting who has access to your profile picture.
