(CNN Spanish) – The president of Peru Dina Boluarte traveled this Saturday, together with a delegation made up of several ministers, to Tumbes, Piura, Lambayeque and La Libertad, which are among the regions most affected by the heavy rains in recent days by Cyclone Yaku passed by.

During her visit to these areas, the president delivered humanitarian aid and made herself available to the regional authorities to meet primary needs.

“We will continue advancing with what the local and regional authorities request of us, and we will immediately be ready to attend, not only delivering, but also traveling to see the problem on the spot,” added Boluarte.

A state of emergency is declared in Arequipa, Peru, due to imminent danger due to heavy rains

The heavy rains that Cyclone Yaku has already left in the northern part of the country will add to those expected in regions further south, as well as in the capital, Lima, Defense Minister Jorge Chávez said.

“Cyclone Yaku, which is in the northern part, is descending and this is going to increase the rainfall in Lima, which can increase the flow of the Rímac, Lurín and Chillón rivers.”

Peru has been in the rainy season since September 2022 and, according to a report published this Friday by the National Institute of Civil Defense (Indeci) and the National Emergency Operations Center (COEN), 58 people have died, 57 have been injured and there are eight missing. In addition, so far 8,222 victims and 33,000 affected have been reported.
