Aleksey Shevchenko: “Talks between Ak Bars and Khovanov will begin on Monday”

Hockey

Journalist Alexey Shevchenko spoke about the possible transition of the silver medalist of the 2020 youth world championship Alexandra Khovanova to Kazan Ak Bars.

“The Minnesota leadership evaluated their prospectuses and allowed Alexander Khovanov to return to Russia. At least there is confirmation that he will not be obstructed if he wants to speak at home. The rights to participate in the last youth world championship belong to Ak Bars and it seems that everything has already been decided. But there is no contract yet. As it became known, the club began to discuss the contract and they need to think.

Let’s discuss what exactly can confuse the general manager and head coach. Firstly, Ak Bars has already formed a roster. Of course, there are few players, but Kazan also worked carefully in the market. Khovanov is the center, and there the competition is terrible: Yes, Costa, Galimov, Tikhonov, Voronkov, Glukhov. We remove the foreigner and Mikhail out of brackets (the legionnaire’s link will be together, and Glukhov’s specific functions), only two positions remain. Of course, Khovanov can move Galimov to intervene in the third link, but it remains to be seen how he will fulfill the requirements of the head coach. Secondly, for sure, the club will seriously think about how long Minnesota will let Alexander go. If for a year, then what’s the point? If at least for a couple of seasons, then you can still think.

Thirdly, money, but this item is not the most important. Kazan has funds for a young hockey player, and Alexander himself is unlikely to fight for a huge contract. Apparently, negotiations will begin on Monday and it will be clear where the forward will continue his career. But it’s good that he is returning. No one knows when the next season will begin in North America, ”Shevchenko wrote in a column for Sport Express.

The Minnesota Wilde, in whose system the hockey player is playing, may release Khovanov for a year in the KHL due to the situation with the AHL season 2020/2021, which may be canceled.

Khovanov spent the last three years in the Quebec junior league, playing for the local Moncton. In their composition, the Russian scored 99 (32 + 67) points in 51 matches.
