Another change in the coach of Legia Warsaw under Dariusz Mioduski has become a fact. Aleksandar Vuković said goodbye to his post on Monday noon.
In recent weeks, Legia has been doing well below expectations. The defeat of Omonia Nicosia (0: 2) in the Champions League qualifying round was the first blow for the fans of the Polish champions. The next ones came in the league. It is true that Legia won the inauguration of PKO Ekstraklasa with Raków Częstochowa (1: 2), but was then defeated by Jagiellonia Białystok (1: 2). The exhausted victory over Wisła Płock (1: 0) gave the Legia coach a moment’s breath, but another defeat with Górnik Zabrze (1: 3) exhausted Dariusz Mioduski’s patience.
The owner of Legia came to the conclusion that this was the last moment to save the Europa League qualifying rounds. Legia will play against Drita from Kosovo on Thursday. A defeat with this team would be a real image and financial disaster for the club from Łazienkowska.
Aleksandar Vuković led the Legia on his own since the beginning of April last year. Then he took over the team after Ricardo Sa Pinto was released. Previously, he was a temporary coach of the Legia several times. In the 2018/2019 season, Vuko failed to fight for the Polish championship. Piast won the title, and Legia became the runner-up. In the following competitions, the team led by Serb did much better, but only in the league. The legionnaires turned out to be the best in Poland and won the national championship with a lead of three points over Lech. It was worse in the cups, to which she was not promoted again. Then Glasgow Rangers (0: 1 on aggregate) stood in the way of the play-offs of the LE.
Aleksandar Vuković will be replaced by Czesław Michniewicz. The coach of the Polish U-21 national team is in Warsaw and is talking to the club’s authorities. According to Piotr Kamieniecki with TVP Sport, an agreement has already been reached. Michniewicz can even lead Legia’s training today.
