Today, Friday, the Chinese Football Association announced the appointment of Serbian Aleksandar Jankovic as coach of the first team, to succeed Chinese Li Xiaopeng.
The Serbian coach took over the supervision of the first team on a temporary basis, since last summer, after the dismissal of the previous coach, Xiao Ying.
And the Chinese Federation published an official statement in which it clarified the appointment of Jankovic as coach of the national team, “in order to prepare for the 2023 Asian Cup and the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, after reviewing the expert group and approval of the Chinese Football Association.”
Since his arrival in China on September 28, 2018, Yankovic has supervised the reserve team for the under-19 category, and on October 26, 2020, he was appointed coach for the under-21 category, in order to prepare for the Asian Games, whose competitions will start on September 23. next September.
Jankovic was able to lead the Chinese Olympic team to third place in the East Asian Championship, which was held in Japan last year.
The training of the Chinese national team is the first experience of its kind for the Serbian coach, who previously coached his country’s U-21 national team between 2010 and 2013, in addition to having a training experience in the Red Star Club and the Belgian Standard League.
