U.S. filmmaker Alex Boldvin has been sued on Tuesday by the family of Halin Hatchin, a cameraman shot at Boldwin’s film set, demanding significant compensation for killing Hatchin.
In New Mexico in October, during a rehearsal for Rust, Boldwin held a Colt pistol when a real bullet was fired that hit Hachins, saving her life.
According to lawyer Brian Panish at a news conference on Tuesday, “negligent behavior and cost-cutting measures” by Boldwin and other producers led to Hatchin’s death.
A lawyer representing Matthew ‘s wife, Matthew, and son, Androso, referred to “at least 15 industry standards” that were not met by producers at the reception area.
The lawsuit was filed in New Mexico, where the accident occurred.
Asked how much compensation the family wants, Panic said: “We think it will be important.”
Other claims have been made in connection with the tragedy in October.
In November, Sergei Svetnoy, the headlight of the low-budget film, sued Boldvin for negligence.
Hannah Gutier-Reed, who was in charge of weapons at the reception area, sued the film’s ammunition supplier last month, accusing the real ones of empty cartridges.
Criminal investigations are ongoing.
Investigators have not filed criminal charges in connection with the tragedy, but it is possible that such could be brought against those involved, including Boldwin.
As Boldwin explained in December, he was told that the weapon did not have real cartridges, and he was instructed to point the weapon in the direction of Hachins as the cameraman prepared to shoot the film.
