Manchester United won 3-0 against Everton FC on Sunday. Alejandro Garnacho (19) provided the highlight of the day with an overhead kick goal in the third minute. Afterwards there was a lot of praise – and words of warning from the coach.
Garnacho initially celebrated his spectacular goal to make it 1-0 with the cheers of his idol, Cristiano Ronaldo (38). He later compared his goal on social media to the overhead kick goal that CR7 scored for Real Madrid in the Champions League almost five years ago.
Immediately after the match, the artistic shooter was still completely overwhelmed by his opening goal. “Honestly, I couldn’t believe I shot it,” he reported.
“I didn’t see how I scored, I just heard the crowd and said: ‘Oh my God’. It’s one of the best goals I’ve ever scored,” said Garnacho.

Long-time United defender Gary Neville (48) was also amazed. “I don’t think I’ve ever been in a stadium and seen such a good overhead kick,” said the TV expert on Sky.
His former teammate Roy Keane (52) could only agree with this praise for Garnacho. “I’m usually critical of goalkeepers but with this one brilliant goal and United’s brilliant start I’ll let him get away with it. Brilliant goal.”
Alejandro Garnacho: Erik ten Hag criticizes Ronaldo comparison
Manchester coach Erik ten Hag (53) also joined in the praise for his young offensive player. “It was probably the goal of the season – a great moment.”
At the same time, the Dutchman resisted lumping his teenager in with club legend Cristiano Ronaldo too early. “Don’t compare them,” warned ten Hag. “For Garnacho to go down this path, he has to work hard. You have to do it consistently and so far he hasn’t done it. If you want to be a Rooney or a Ronaldo, you have to score 20 to 25 goals every season.”
