The ornamental jumpers failed in their second chance to climb onto the podium in Paris. The national flag bearers Alejandra Orozco and Gabriela Agúndez placed fifth in the synchronized platform event after completing the five rounds with a score of 297.66.
The duo, who won the bronze medal at the Tokyo Games, missed their fourth jump, which put them out of any medal hopes.
“It was a difficult process, there were ups and downs for both of us. I would have liked not to make mistakes but I can’t turn back time,” Ale told TUDN.
Orozco, who is participating in her fourth Games, is seeking her third medal in this type of competition after finishing on the podium in London 2012 and Tokyo 2020.
For Agúndez it was his second Olympic experience.
“These have been very special Games, unlike in Tokyo, now you can feel the vibe of the people. We still have the individual part to do and I hope they continue to support us,” said Gaby.
The pair achieved Mexico’s second Olympic diploma after Randal Willars and Kevin Berlin, also in the synchronized platform. The distinction is awarded to those who place among the top eight in their competition.
China, North Korea and Great Britain took the first three spots.
Diving is the discipline that has given Mexico the most medals in the Olympic Games with 15.
Bruno Martinez eliminated in archery
The national archery team member, Bruno Martínez, was eliminated in the round of 32 by Cuban Hugo Franco.
Although they started their competition at the Esplanade des Invalides with good rhythm, the tricolor succumbed with a score of 3-7, thus ending their participation in Paris.
