Jerez –
Rider Aprilia Aleix Espargaro back on the podium after finishing third in Spanish MotoGP 2022. Espargaro benefits by mistake Jack Miller and Marc Marquez.
Espargaro started from the third grid in the race at the Jerez Circuit, Sunday (1/5/2022) night WIB. The Spaniard was scattered in fifth position so he failed to compete with Fabio Quartararo and Francesco Bagnaia in the leading group.
Espargaro then engaged in a tight third podium battle with Miller and Marquez in front of him. At Turn 13, Espargaro managed to overtake Miller from the inside, then Marquez, who was in third position, went wide. In the process, it was Espargaro who finished third, which he kept until the end of the race.
This result marks the third podium back to back for Aleix Espargaro after achieving similar results in Portimao, a week ago. Regarding his fight with Jack Miller and Marc MarquezEspargaro admitted he had expected that the two rivals would make a mistake.
“If I insist on overtaking, I will hit Marc,” Espargaro was quoted as saying Speedweek. “So I had to admit to myself that I wasn’t really racing to win and I had to wait and see.”
“At the end of the race I noticed that the two riders in front of me were not able to keep their line and I was sure they would make a mistake. When I overtook Jack, Marc went wide and I went over both.”
“In three laps later I was able to go half a second faster. I have good pace. I will be closer to the riders in front but maybe not enough to win. I am very happy with third place,” Aleix Espargaro add over Spanish MotoGP 2022.
