The fire broke out at 7:30 pm, with a source from Carnaxide’s volunteer firefighters, who sent two vehicles and an ambulance to the scene, out of a total of ten operatives, told the Lusa agency that the fire “was quickly subdued”.
According to the same source, the fire started to be fought by security guards at the shopping center, who, after calling the fire department, used the building’s reel to control the flames.
The fire originated in a fryer, in the kitchen of one of the restaurants, located on the second floor of the shopping center, in the restaurant area. The smoke caused by the fire, which occupied the central nave of the shopping center, forced the closure of all stores, except the hypermarket.
At 8 pm, employees and customers continued to leave the building calmly, with the restaurant area, located on the second of three floors, completely empty.
The doors of the shopping center reopened at 20:25, Lusa found on the spot.
At 20:40, cleaning operations continued in the building, with the employees of restaurants at the door of the shopping center still waiting for orders to be able to pick up their belongings.
