Alfred Pennyworth has been Bruce Wayne’s loyal butler and friend since his parents were murdered in Gotham City. The character stands out for being extremely intelligent and fearless, but you may be surprised to discover that at some point in the comics he fought against Superman and defeated him.
In the graphic novel Injustice: Gods Among Us, A prequel to the popular video game of the same name, the Joker uses a modified version of the fear toxin on Superman, causing him to overflow through Metropolis and kill Lois Lane.
Upon recovering, Clark is no longer the same and as revenge he murders that villain and becomes the brutal dictator of Earth under a relentless regime of fear. Some heroes join him because they think they are doing the right thing by following the Man of Steel, but then they realize their terrible mistake. Batman is the one opposed from the start.
To fight Superman, the batman tries to steal a pill that gives Kryptonian strength to whoever ingests it. By having it in your hands you could replicate it and increase your chances of success in the fight.
When achieving it at the cost of the death of Green Date, Batman manufactures it in his laboratory and who takes it is none other than Alfred, but the rest of the consequences are paid by Batman when he is defeated by Jor-El’s son.
After that moment Alfred confronts Superman in an epic way by breaking his nose and hitting him like few others have.
Seeing the behavior of the “superhero” and his friend Bruce on the floor made him enraged to such a degree that he managed to collapse Superman to the ground.
When he finishes with him, Alfred picks Batman up in his arms to remove him from the place, remarking that there is nothing else worth saving from there (which refers to the Man of Steel).
Volume 36 of the comic showed a side of Alfred that no one expected, where he was able to save young Bruce by knocking out the strongest man on the planet. Nobody saw that coming!
