Aldi stores will automatically count customers

In order to ensure that Aldi customers shop safely, a maximum number of customers per branch will be determined.

D‘By September, Aldi will install an automatic counting system in all of its stores that will stop customers with a red light when the store is too busy. The supermarket chain, which has 450 branches in Belgium, announced this Friday.

“Depending on how often in the store, a new customer will see a green or red screen when entering the supermarket,” explains Koen Piessens, General Sales Director at Aldi. “If the maximum number of safe clients is reached, the client will see a red screen. The front door will then remain closed for a short period of time ”. During the first days, a steward will oversee the application of the system.

In addition to automatic customer counting, Aldi is already taking other measures. For example, the disinfectant available, the obligation to take a shopping cart as well as the fact of shopping alone.
