Alcohol testing in San Antonio Oeste

Carlos Aravena, traffic director of the municipality of San Antonio Oeste, spoke about the controls that are carried out during the weekends in the town. «Exactly, we continue… well, the controls always continue, it is a matter of prevention, of trying to prevent any accident or fatal accident from occurring. “We continued with the controls from Friday to Sunday constantly,” said Aravena.

Despite the efforts, the official noted that the situation varies depending on the weekend. «We see that the situation, instead of improving, sometimes increases or decreases. We continue to face situations such as people on motorcycles without documentation, without a license, without insurance, or vehicle papers,” he explained in Signos FM. One of the problems that Aravena highlighted was the increase in cases of alcoholism, precisely in one of the drivers, the alcohol test measurement showed 2.40 gl. «Despite the increases in controls, we continue to encounter people who, knowing the severity, continue to drive under the influence of alcohol. In a single night, six vehicles were seized for alcohol testing and we detained around ten motorcycles in three days,” he explained.

The director emphasized the need for citizens to comply with the rules to reduce road incidents and highlighted that the controls are not to punish, but to prevent accidents. “Retaining a motorcycle or a vehicle is not an act of evil, but so that we all begin to comply with the rules and avoid tragedies,” he said. Looking ahead to the high season, Aravena commented that they are already planning the hiring of auxiliary personnel. «The season demands a lot of work from us. We not only control in San Antonio, but also in the port and the routes. We have a permanent team, but we need assistants, many of them have already worked with us in previous years, although they are not permanent staff,” he said. Finally, he highlighted the importance of the work carried out by the transit area, stating that they are available 24 hours a day to attend to any situation. «It is an area that involves a lot of work. It’s not just about sticking to a schedule; Many times we continue on the street carrying out speed checks and other tasks, even after finishing our day,” Aravena concluded.
