According to the study, ethanol, the form of alcohol found in beer, wine and liquor, breaks down to form a known carcinogen called acetaldehyde, which damages DNA and interferes with the ability of cells to repair damage. additionally it was known that alcohol also reduces the body’s ability to absorb certain cancer protective nutrients, including vitamins A, C, D, E and folic acid, others the combination of drinking and smoking could indirectly increase the risk of cancer, since alcohol acts as a kind of solvent for carcinogenic chemicals in the tobacco.
The team of North American researchers found that the more alcohol people drink, the greater the risk of alcohol-related cancer, while drinking at least two and even more than six drinks per day, defined as risk for the consumption excessive alcohol, posed the highest risk of cancer in the future. Even the consumption moderate, of the least drinks a day, accounted for about 14 percent, or 103 thousand casesof alcohol-related cancers, according to the study.
