After days of nerves Finally good news. Alcoa has decided to give a new opportunity for dialogue and has accepted the proposal of the Ministry of Industry and Xunta to negotiate the sale of the aluminum plant in San Cibrao to Liberty House during the next 6 weeks.
This has been agreed in a meeting that the works council and Alcoa have held this Thursday at the CES headquarters in Santiago de Compostela, a meeting that has been possible after the mediation of public administrations and that the tension was reduced after the breakdown of contacts last week.
The consensus reached includes, in addition to the exclusive negotiation with the British firm, the only one that has shown interest in taking over the plant, the maintenance of industrial activity.
During this process, Alcoa undertakes to inform the Xunta and the Ministry of Industry within the framework of a commission of which all the actors of the same will take part. If during this extension of the consultation period there is no agreement, it would be terminated that same September 28.
At the end of the meeting, the president of the works council, José Antonio Zan thanked both the central administration and, above all, the regional administration for the mediation in the conflict “on the labor issue that they have lent us a hand and have supported us at all times; You have to continue like this and bear in mind that nothing has been closed. We are pending to reach an agreement on the 27th. “
