Twenty-year-old Alcaraz defeated Evans, who is 13 years older, in the third match between them. He surpassed the British opponent in the ratio of winning balls 61:28. The Spaniard won the first two sets thanks to five breaks, but in the third set, Evans improved on serve and dropped. In the fourth set, however, Alcaraz did not offer the opponent a single break point, in the sixth game he broke his serve again and advanced the match.
“I think it was a nice match. There were a lot of great exchanges that made us both laugh,” Alcaraz said in an on-court interview.
Sabalenkova dominated
Twenty-five-year-old Sabalenková stayed on the court for 61 minutes against Burelová, the 62nd player in the world. Just like last year, she allowed the Frenchwoman only two games at the same stage of the US Open. She scored 22 winning balls in the match, the French woman played six of them. “I am very happy. I think I played very good tennis today,” said Sabalenková.
