THE week was born in Carlos Alcaraz, and ends in Chanel. We have put so much praise into both that we are before a losing duo. We have twinned one with Federer, and the other we have crowned Beyoncé of Europe. And there is no way. We like the expectation of excess so much that then the reality is a certain disappointment. I write on a Saturday afternoon, and I don’t know if Chanel will win or not, but that doesn’t matter, because the expectations about her performance have been so triumphant that the girl has only been able to survive training in suffocation. And she has survived, without letting go of her carnivorous smile and crazy eyes, which is indeed a success. Not even victory, if it happens, would live up to the thunderous chronicles of previous fanaticism.
