Alcaraz achieved something the Big 3 couldn’t at the US Open

Carlos Alcaraz (55 °), only 18 years old, defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas (3 °) in five sets and advanced to the knockout stages of the US Open. Alcaraz entered the second week at Flushing Meadows in his first time in the main draw of the last Grand Slam of the season.

With this achievement, to be among the 16 best of the United States Open in his first participation, He has already achieved something that the Big 3 could not: Novak Djokovic (1st), Rafael Nadal (5th) and Roger Federer (9th) did not achieve access to the second week of New York in its premiere.

Federer, who debuted in this tournament in 2000, lost in the third round. Like the Swiss, Djokovic (made his US debut in 2005) was eliminated in third. These two were just one match away from matching Alcaraz’s mark. Nadal for his part, reached the second instance, in 2003.

Far from being satisfied with having eliminated Tsitsipas, Alcaraz is going for more and will try to get, for the first time in his career, among the eight best in a Grand Slam: will collide with the German Peter Gojowczyk (141 °), who defeated Henri Laasonen (130th) by 3-6, 6-3, 6-1 and 6-4.
