Albrandswaards Dagblad | ‘People are still wearing masks in many places’

The mouth masks will not immediately disappear from view if the mouth mask obligation is lifted in many places. This emerges from a survey by EenVandaag among 18,000 members of the opinion panel of the current affairs program. Almost a quarter (23 percent) plans to continue wearing a face mask in contact professions and in shops for the time being.

Three in ten participants (31 percent) in the survey say they continue to wear a face mask in supermarkets. Face masks remain the most visible in public transport. Even if there is no longer an obligation, almost half (44 percent) would still wear a mouth mask.

The least enthusiasm for wearing face masks is at work (11 percent) and in museums (15 percent). In addition to the idea that it is best to keep a distance at work, many participants find wearing a face mask in the workplace ‘irritating’. “It’s not comfortable, it’s hot and I’m less audible,” someone writes. “As a result, I can hardly concentrate on my work.”

There is broad support for the cabinet’s decision to relax quickly. Four in ten participants (39 percent) think that the government is keeping a good pace and another quarter (25 percent) want to go even faster. They think that this is possible because there is a lot of vaccination and there are few infections. Moreover, because of the nice weather, people are probably outside more, they say, and the chance of infection is therefore smaller.
