Many parents make too little use of the free dental care for their children. Children from deprived areas in particular do not maintain their teeth well. Reason for the CDA to write a memorandum about it that, after a ‘smoke-free generation’, now also advocates a ‘hole-free generation’, de Volkskrant reports.

CDA MP Joba van den Berg substantiates her concerns in a memorandum that will be discussed by the House of Representatives in the autumn. “Cracks in the primary teeth in children can lead to premature loss of permanent teeth in adulthood. Diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular diseases and some pregnancy complications are related to dental or gum problems,” writes Van den Berg.
She argues for more urgency to tackle the lack of dental visits. According to Van den Berg, many parents are not aware that dental care for their children is fully reimbursed by the basic insurance for which young people are insured free of charge until their 18th birthday.
