With winter ahead, it is extra important that everyone works on their resistance and ensures a healthy weight. However, eating healthy and at the same time affordable is quite a challenge for many people. That is the opinion of the Diabetes Fund, which wants to show in October with the Appeltje-eitje campaign that healthy eating is not expensive and complicated.
Participants receive recipes, tips and cooking videos throughout the month and there is also a recipe book, with part of the proceeds going to diabetes research. The intention is that everyone can serve a healthy and affordable evening meal every day.
According to director Etelka Ubbens of the Diabetes Fund, attention to a healthy lifestyle continues to be important in the fight against type 2 diabetes. Half of the adults in our country weigh too much and therefore have an increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes. the fund sees that it is becoming increasingly difficult to eat affordable healthy food, because healthy food has risen more in price than unhealthy food. Furthermore, many offers are not focused enough on the healthy choice. According to the Diabetes fund, only one of the five supermarket offers fits within that bracket of five.
Diabetes Fund dietician Kim Brouwers: “Just think that according to the disk of five we have to consume 250 grams of vegetables and two pieces of fruit every day, but the price has only increased in recent years. Every day we are also tempted to buying sugary drinks in advertising brochures. This makes it very difficult for people to make healthy choices. “
