Two days after his dismissal as spokesman for the PP municipal group, Alberto López Asenjo has given his version of events in BE Gijón. The curator has pointed out that all the requirements made from the City Council’s intervention were sent to the local president, Pablo González, as well as to the regional leadership. Asenjo recalled that, despite the fact that this issue did not affect him, he had the obligation to account for being a public official. “It is striking that I am accused that they have not been sent when a response has been given to everything,” he assured. The mayor has pointed out that he has held up to four meetings in the regional direction and in Genoa.

López Asenjo has also explained that his relationship, Ángela Pumariega -new spokesperson- is good. In fact, he recalled that in 2019 when Pumariega announced that he was retiring due to the internal struggles of the party, he convinced her to continue. Without citing him, he has also left a message for Pablo González: “We are public servants, we do not come to live off politics.”

In addition, he has confirmed that he will continue as mayor of the PP. “When you arrive, what you do is defend the interests of Gijón. We should abandon the concept of ideologies when elected councilors what we must do is serve the city,” he said.
