Alberto González shines and wins and sets a record in El Salvador

Guatemalan Alberto González won the gold medal in the half marathon event at the Central American and Caribbean Games in El Salvador. His official time was 1:03.50.

The athlete, born in the department of Chimaltenango, maintained a competitive rhythm and towards the end quickened his pace to overcome Colombian José González who entered in second place. The Mexican Juan Luis Barrios finished the test in third place to win the bronze medal.

Alberto González was left with the golden metal and also set a new mark, after breaking the record of 1 hour 10 minutes and 29 seconds, which had been set by the Mexican Alberto Peralta in this competition.

The competition took place during the early hours of this Sunday in a circuit on Los Héroes boulevard in the Salvadoran capital.

In the female category, the winner was the Venezuelan Joselyn Brea, who beat the Mexican Margarita Hernánde and the Colombian Angie Orjuela.

This half-marathon test was played again in the Central American and Caribbean Games after 64 years, after the Caracas jousting in 1959.

The Guatemalan team dominated the men’s skeet event from start to finish to win the first gold medal of the skeet shooting contest of the Central American and Caribbean Games.

The Guatemalans prevailed with 213 impacts, followed by the Dominican Republic (209), Mexico (206), Puerto Rico (202), Guadeloupe (199) and Cuba (192).

At the El Higuero skeet shooting range in Santo Domingo, Guatemala, with Rodrigo Zachrisson, Sebastián Bermúdez and Carlos Padilla, he made a first series of 71 broken plates and took the lead that he never lost.

With similar results of 71-71-71, the Central Americans increased their advantage in each round, with an even performance from their figures, Zachrisson, with 72 strokes, Bermúdez with one less and Padilla with two down.

The Dominican Máximo Tavarez was the man with the best aim on the day with 73 targets. His teammates Félix Hermida (69) and Julio Dujarric (67) were a little below him, however, he reached for the Caribbean team to win the silver medal.

Mexico, with Carlos Segovia, Luis Gallardo and Jesús Balboa, started tied for second place with the Dominicans and Puerto Ricans, but fell in the second and third series and finished in bronze.
