The recently released cast list for the upcoming Resident Evil 4 remake seems to confirm the appearance of Albert Wesker. According to IMDB, the role will be played by actor Connor Fogarty in the as yet unreleased game. Fogarty is best known for his work on God of War: Ragnarok and Shin Megami Tensei 3.
Developer Capcom calls the game “a remake of the original 2005 Resident Evil 4, reimagined for 2023 to bring the modern art of survival horror to the game.” The official description explains that Resident Evil 4 “preserves the essence of the original game while introducing streamlined gameplay, a reimagined storyline and vividly detailed graphics to create this ultimate survival horror game where life and death, horror and catharsis intersect”. The game will be released on March 24th.
“The camera perspective is a third-person perspective, as you may remember from the original Resident Evil 4,” Capcom says of the remake. “Thanks to the updated graphics, the feeling of isolation and foreboding of the original game has been further enhanced, and the controls have been upgraded to modern standards, which increases the intensity of the gameplay.”
While fans of the franchise eagerly awaited the character’s arrival, rumors have been circulating for months that Wesker won’t appear in Resident Evil 4. Capcom hasn’t said much about Wesker since the game was announced. In the past, IMDB cast lists haven’t always been correct, so readers should take this with a grain of salt until we get confirmation from either Fogarty or Capcom. While Wesker did not appear in the original version of the game, the character of him has appeared in Expendables Mode and in the Separate Ways bonus add-on that has been added to versions since the original GameCube release. In Separate Ways, it was revealed that Ada Wong works for Wesker, so it’s possible the remake will expand on their backstory or include bonus game content in the remake.
Wesker was first introduced in Resident Evil as a captain in the Special Tactics and Rescue Service. This character was a consistent antagonist who sought to destroy humanity through mass extinction and forced evolution. Wesker started out as a top researcher for the infamous Umbrella Corporation, then gained superhuman powers by injecting himself with a variant of the Progenitor virus, and was eventually killed off by character Chris Redfield in Resident Evil 5.
