Albert Supermarket Job Offer Raises Questions About Salary Transparency

PrahaIN.cz was alerted to a job offer in the Albert supermarket, which appears very often on Facebook and on the company’s website. However, none of the dozens of positions offered has a salary rating. This is not the case with the position of store manager either. Albert tempts him with interesting benefits.

“Become a manager of one of our Prague stores. Help us deliver on our strategy of making our employees’ jobs easier through digital technology and providing great service to our employees,” Albert beckoned in a paid Facebook ad.

The manager will be responsible for the assigned store, meet key indicators and lead a team of employees. Requirements include high school education, at least two years of experience in a relevant retail management position.

“You can look forward to a nice annual bonus and a lot of employee benefits, which are focused not only on a healthy lifestyle,” the advertisement also said.

Attractive benefits

Dozens of comments, however, paused over the mentioned benefits. Among them was a 15 percent discount on the entire purchase, five times a year.

Our editors were alerted by readers to the high price of baked goods, which they had the opportunity to meet in one of the Vinohrady bakeries. The concerned…

“Really? 15 percent off the entire purchase for the store manager?” read one comment, and others chimed in. “So that’s why I’m interested,” gushed another.

Other benefits included a bonus based on meeting goals, a management academy, a Multisport card or a mobile phone.

No one found it strange that the ad did not mention the salary.

The same ad is also on Albert website. “At Albert, we are proud of our work, because our goal is to help Czechs eat and live better. Every one of our colleagues does an incredible amount of work every day so that we can offer our customers healthier, gentler and local food. Therefore, the work we do together is not “just work”. It is work that is meaningful to us, to our communities, to our land and to our planet. It’s work that makes sense,” the website says.

We are currently looking for four store managers. Two in Brno, one in Milevsko and the last one in Prague. What the salary will be, however, will probably be known only at the interview. Here, too, a fifteen percent discount on purchases is advertised among the benefits.

Lidl has the highest salaries

If we were to look at the vacant positions of other retail chains, there is no lack of salary.

For example, Lidl is looking for a store manager in Brandýs nad Labem. The starting salary is 71,000, after the first year 74,000, after the second 77,000 and after three years the manager will get to 80,000 plus benefits. For example, a company car, meal vouchers, up to 30 days of vacation, a Multisport card or paid time off when a child starts first grade.

Penny Market is also looking for a store manager in Kladno. There is no shortage of information about wages here either. The employee receives 53,500 crowns upon joining. Among the benefits are meal vouchers, 25 days of vacation or Christmas shopping vouchers in the amount of up to four thousand.

Kaufland is looking for several department heads. The starting salary is 49,000 crowns, after three years the employee will receive an amount of 55,000 crowns. Benefits are a form of the Cafeteria system, where everyone chooses what interests them.
