Albert Palau Octet visits the music of Miguel Asins Arbó’s Berlin universe in a jazz key

VALENCIA, 13 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The pianist Albert Palau will perform this Wednesday at the Valencia Jazz Festival, leading his octet and with a “very attractive” program in which he will visit the music of the films composed by Miguel Asins Arbó, and especially those of the universe of Luís García Berlanga.

This is the concert that closes the performances at the Principal Theater, to continue from the 17th in neighborhoods and towns of Valencia, reports the Palau de la Música.

The president of the auditorium, Gloria Tello, highlighted regarding this concert that “this year we celebrate the Berlanga Year and our Festival could not fail to join this event, with a project that connects the great music of films such as’ Plácido ‘and’ The executioner ‘, adapted to the language of jazz “.

And it is that in many of the compositions that Asins Arbó wrote for the big screen, he evidenced his affinity for jazz orchestrations and patterns with genres such as fox trot, blues, bolero and song.

In its octet, Palau has brought together some of the main names of the Valencian scene, all with international projection such as the trumpet Voro García, the trombone Carlos Martín, the saxophones Perico Sambeat and Ramón Cardo, the guitar Joan Soler, the double bass player Ales Cesarini and the drummer Mariano Steimberg, in addition to having special guests.

The director of the Palau, Vicent Ros, for his part, has influenced the fact that “we finished the Festival concerts in the same way that we started, with quality Valencian jazz, which, moreover, has been very present in the majority of the concerts “.

In this sense, Tello added: “We are very fortunate to have excellent jazz musicians in our land, to whom we have wanted to give decisive support in this edition”.

In this way, apart from the aforementioned Berlanga soundtracks, Albert Palau presents a program with the music of ‘El buen Amor’ by Francisco Regueiro, ‘Llegar a más’ by Jesús Fernández Santos, ‘A Hierro Muere’ by Manuel Mur Oti , ‘Last wish’ by León Klimovsky and ‘A round-trip robbery’ by Roberto Fizz.

For Albert Palau, Asins Arbó’s music “reflects the character of each film, moving between the simplicity and effectiveness of some humorous themes and the sophistication of others that demonstrate great compositional technique”. Adapting to the language of contemporary jazz has been “a challenge”, according to the Valencian musician.
