“Albert Heijn Distribution Center Strike: AH Offers 10% Pay Increase, Unions Refuse Negotiations”

Albert Heijn wants to pay the staff in the distribution centers 10 percent more. The supermarket chain has informed the unions of this, but according to AH they do not want to return to the negotiating table.

AH distribution centers have been on strike since last Sunday. Then an ultimatum from the unions about a new collective agreement expired. As a result of the strike, the shelves in some of the stores are far empty.

“We are now meeting the requirements, but the unions do not want to come to the table. As a result, employees and temporary workers have to wait even longer for more wages,” an AH spokesperson told NU.nl. “We have repeatedly asked the unions to come and talk again. We are very surprised that they have not accepted our invitation.”

The unions want more than 14 percent more wages for employees in the centers from which the shops are supplied. AH initially offered 6 percent on May 1 and then another 2 percent on January 1.

Albert Heijn’s distribution centers employ around six thousand people, half of whom are temporary workers.
