The effects of actions in Albert Heijn’s distribution centers are particularly visible in the approximately one hundred supermarkets in the northeast of the country. A spokesperson for the supermarket chain informs NU.nl.
The work stoppages of staff in the centers from which the groceries are delivered to the shops started on Sunday evening. Trade unions CNV Vakmensen and FNV Handel called for this after their demand for a wage increase of 14.3 percent was not met. AH offers 6 percent as of May 1 and 2 percent as of January 1, 2024.
According to the union, protests are taking place in all six distribution centers. Albert Heijn keeps it to “a number”. “Especially in Geldermalsen there is action.” Shops are supplied from there with products such as cleaning products, pet food and canned goods. “The non-daily groceries,” says the AH spokesperson.
According to AH, bread, fresh fruit and vegetables are only scarce in the shops in the northeast of the country, which are supplied from Zwolle. There was a strike on Monday. “They are always snapshots. Now all stores are in any case supplied. But not all stores receive all products.”
The orange tompouces will be in the display case in all AHs. “They don’t come from a distribution center.”
