Albert Heijn and Jumbo stop using the name ‘crompouce’ | General

Supermarket chains Jumbo and Albert Heijn will stop using the name crompouce, spokespeople for both chains confirm after reports from The Telegraph. The popular product will remain on the shelves of both supermarkets, but will be given a different name.

At Jumbo the product will be called tompouce croissant from Sunday and Albert Heijn will now call it AH Tompouce Croissant.

The reason for changing the name of the product is a possible lawsuit for companies that sell the product called crompouce. Ulrika Menig, owner of Bammetje Bakery, said she previously invented the crompouce during the corona lockdown in 2020.

On Wednesday, Menig reported that she has hired a lawyer. The product and brand name of the crompouce may now no longer be used without permission. According to Menig, “action will most certainly be taken” against infringement.

The Jumbo spokesperson confirms that this is the reason why the name of the product is being changed. A spokesperson for Albert Heijn says that the supermarket chain has changed the name of the product “completely voluntarily”.
