An Albanian drug criminal who was wanted in 180 countries, including the Netherlands, has been arrested in Colombia. According to local media, Besnik Nikolli, nicknamed ‘Niko’ or ‘El Gordo’ (the fat one), has been arrested in Santa Marta.
Nikolli is said to be an influential man in the drug trade. He has ties with several Albanian gangs, which are active in the Netherlands, Germany and France, among others.
The Colombian El Spectador in Colombia reports that he was in Colombia to establish contacts with several drug networks. He was caught in the north of the country during a major police operation against the cocaine trade.
Since 2021 there is an international warrant against him. Several countries want to try him for drug trafficking, but also for money laundering.
It is not yet clear whether Nikolli will have to appear in court in Colombia or whether he will be extradited to another country.
