Albania: Incidents with 13 injured in a demonstration in Tirana against Edi Rama –

Clashes broke out on Monday night in Tirana during a demonstration by opposition supporters calling for the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama, injuring 10 police officers and at least three protesters, according to AFP and an Albanian police spokesman. .

Thousands of protesters in Tirana

Thousands of demonstrators responded to the call of the conservative Democratic Party and gathered in the Albanian capital, reports AFP. The first clashes broke out when protesters tried to break the police cordon outside government buildings, using Molotov cocktails. The crowd then proceeded to the headquarters of Rama’s Socialist Party, where they set fire to the outer gate and burned a poster of the prime minister. Other protesters vandalized the interior ministry building and a bus station, setting trash cans on fire.

They demand Rama’s resignation

The protesters demanded the resignation of Prime Minister Rama and the formation of a caretaker government that will lead Albania to parliamentary elections next year.

“We will continue civil disobedience actions until Rama resigns,” Democratic Party (PD) secretary general Flamur Noka told reporters.

Effervescence in the Parliament of Albania

Last week, PD MPs threw their chairs outside parliament and lit fires to protest the one-year prison sentence handed down to their colleague Ervin Saliani. The Albanian opposition denounces “an act of revenge and political terrorism”, for which it holds Prime Minister Edi Rama responsible.
